Gianyar has a line of famous artists, including I Gusti Nyoman Lempad and I Cokot through their unique artistic abilities. The regency of Gianyar, besides its natural potentials, has also inherited quite a number of historical and cultural assets. The regency is the center old kingdoms in Bali. The palace of Warmadewa Dynasty that ruled Bali in the 14th century was located in Bedahulu, Pejeng, Gianyar. So was the central base of the Kresna Kepakisan Dynasty that was in Samprangan. As the center of kingdoms in Bali, Gianyar is also the center of cultural and religious development. |

The communicty of Gianyar realizes and is grateful to almighty God for all the richness of arts, culture, and natural environment that the region possesses. Therefore all the richness that is inherent by their forefathers must be preserved continuously. Various handicrafts such as carvings, paintings and also art performance like dancing are developing drastically in the region. Therefore, it is not surprising that this regency is known as the art capital of Bali. |
